Product Review: Hankook V12EVO Ultra High Performance Tyre

These past two weeks I have been checking my tires thread very frequent. Reason? I was hoping my tire thread can worn off faster so I can give myself an excuse to change all my tires to this Hankook V12EVO! Changing tyres is like changing new shoes you see, but of course safety is always the main reason that we should change tyres frequently. I am currently using the Bridgestone MY01, it is a entry level tyre from Bridgestone, but then, I bought it for RM290 per pcs for the size of 205/55/R16, it is not that cheap. The My01 tyre information: Tread wear: 300, Traction: B, Temperature: A.

After I start to do some research on tyres, now I had become a smarter consumer. I found a place that sell a very good deal on Hankook tires. The picture that you saw above will be my next set of tyres, the shop offered me RM284/pcs, this is definitely not a entry level tyre, the tyres were shipped directly from Korea. Tread wear: 3??, Traction: AA , Temperature: A
. I try to get a quote from the shop nearby my house, the lady boss quoted me RM300 per pcs, as for another model, Hankook V8RS, RM280. The other gave me Rm245 only! When I told her the price, the lady boss claimed that it is impossible, she ask me which shop but I refuse to tell her. She said she want to call her supplier and ask them why they are selling others so cheap, she said the price is even lower than her cost. She also commented that Bridgestone is getting pricey nowadays, may be they are transferring the cost to the tires when they have the lawsuit on Firestone tyres installed on Ford Explorer quite some time ago.

My friend recommended me Yokohama tires, though I never use such brand before despite I also heard good things about it, the price I got is around RM270-280 for their entry level AR10 tires, the cheapest one I still can get it around RM240, price is very reasonable. Sometimes I think Japanese product are really a ripped off, most consumers just blindly go for Japanese product, examples are Toyota and Honda that were sold in Malaysia, no doubt some of their car model quality is assured, but then, if you are knowledgeable enough to look at the spec that they are giving you especially in Malaysia, it is really very standard but still they charge u a premium for it, because they know you go for their brand, what is the point of giving you extra air bags or other safety feature like traction control? I think for my next car, I will seriously consider European brand, at least I get more steel per dollar I spent. Well, I didn't say I will not purchase a Japanese car, but definitely I will not put them on my priority list, period.

Anyway, I think I will stick with Hankook V12EVO, cuz I really love the thread, it looks so damn sexy.... hahahah, can I use 'sexy' on tyres? I haven't use it yet but I saw a lot of good reviews in car forums, this is a hot selling product from Korea. So I am going to get one for myself after I put in another 5k km to my car.

Check out this website www.shhtyres.com.sg
and it will tell you how good the tyre is. I agreed with you on this. I'm actually looking for a tyre shop that carry this brand but not many in PJ or KL that I know off. Please tell me, where is this shop you are referring? You have the address and contact no?

Thanks for the contact. I'd call them to check the price and yes, they quoted the price you mentioned. Usually, I'll go to Klang for tyres, a lot cheaper but this shop in Sunway sells one of the cheapest for Hankook tyres. I'd manage to find one shop in Bukit Kemuning for RM285 include balancing and 4 valves. But, I have to share this with you. You should consider this tyre, Hankook Ventus Prime K105. It is very popular in Spore and most premium car comes standard with it. My brother Civic just swape his Bridgestone with this just last Saturday and the best thing about this is the price which cost only RM220 a piece. It was a coincidence we found this shop as we were on our way to a shop which I have called earlier and they quoted me RM280 include balancing, valves and nitrogen gas for all tyres. I thought it was a good deal compared with V12 since this comes with nitro gas. But we were very surprise when they quoted the price. We checked the tyres and all in good condition and bought them. Up till now, my brother is very happy with it. In Spore they quoted him $161 for K105 and $156 for V12. That is a savings of $69 or RM166 a piece.

Wow, RM220 for a piece of Hankook Prime K105 is dirt cheap!! Will defintely try it out for that kind of price. Do bear in mind that I didn't change to V12EVO in Tek Meng despite I love the thread very much. Reason? The tires are already one year old, so it is not that 'fresh' anymore, do check out the manufacturing date for your K105 as well. I think probably that is the reason why they are cheaper. Thanks for the info, do share it where is the shop. :)

Yes, I'm aware of the manufacturing date. The year of make for K105 is, month 45 and year 07. I know it is more than a year but lifespan of tyres is usually 5 years. So I have roughly more than 3 years of usage time. I don't think there are new stock of year 09 available even for V12 in the market. They will have to clear the stock first. But since this is Hankook, I don't think demand is high, so need more time to clear the stocks. It is good that Hankook tyres are not in high demand, as price will be competitive. But their quality has improve tremendously since Michellin is now their partner. I will pass you the contact later, as I don't have it with me now.

The Hankook dealer in SS3 might have a newer V12EVO, of course, the price after discount is around RM29x, I think it is ok if is newer tyres. I still prefer V12EVO if you let me choose again as the thread is really nice! :p
My colleague plan to change all his tires, may be I can ask him to test out the K105.

The shop is Teoh Brothers, No.12A, Jln Sentosa 5, Bayu Tinggi, 41200 Klang. Tel. 03-33263690 or 016-6068000 Chan. If you come from Kesas Highway heading to Klang, turn off at the Jusco or Banting flyover. Take the exit torwards Jusco. Go straight, jusco will be by your left side and turn left at the 2nd traffic lights, Jusco will still be on your left and go straight until you come to a T junction. Turn right and head straight. After passing Giant on your right, there will be some new shops on your left. Look out for the shop there. My tyre size is 205x55x16. If they don't have the size you want, ask them to check with the other branches. Do share of your experience with the V12 when you are using it.

Thanks for your info. Actually if you read my later posting. I have change my tires to "Ventus V8RS" for RM245/pcs. So far I think the tires are quite ok, very soft and quiet. I have a feeling that it is better than Bridgestone My01, which is selling at RM270/pcs. Wet road handling I think MY01 might be slightly better.
