Grocery 101

Yesterday I was shopping at Giant. There are two box sizes of K brand cornflakes on promotion. One comes with a bigger box and another comes with smaller box, both priced at RM12.88 and Rm5.88 respectively.

So here is my question, which box will you pick up? Assuming you consume cornflakes everyday, 'environment friendly' issue of having extra boxes doesn't comes into the picture, you can either buy the big one or multiple small boxes for self consumption. So which of the box you think it will give you the best value?

If your answer is, the big box. And the reason is if 'we' buy in bulk it will save more. Well, the answer can be right or wrong. A lot of times, our mind was fixed and we thought that buy in bulk will get more discount.

Quite a number of consumers will think that if you opt for a 'family pack', it will save you more, even sometimes you don't need that much, but it isn't the case. I saw a pretty gal picked up the big box, I couldn't help myself by offering my two cents to her, I feel like I want to put the two cents into her chest pocket so in one day when she do her grocery, she can be a smarter consumer.

I told her that why not you buy two small ones instead of one big box of cornflakes. I explained to her two points that buying two smaller boxes is a better bargain.
1. The big box nett weight is 550 gram (not sure is 500 g or 550 g but I will take 550g for better calculation), and you are paying RM12.90 after rounding up the cents. For the 275 g of conflakes, they are selling at Rm5.90 after rounding up the cents. So if you buy two boxes and it will only cost you RM11.80. But hey, then you are getting extra deal somemore. K Brand is good enough to free you additional of 50 g of cornflakes for all the small packaging. So you are actually paying RM11.80 for 650 gram of cornflakes compare to Rm12.90 for 550 gram of cornflakes only. (It could be far less if the nett weight is only 500 g), so why pay more?

2. I finish one box, then only I open another box, the cornflakes are fresh and can remain its' 'crunchiness'. Isn't that another added benefit?

Well, but then, like a lot of people, sometimes I also like that; when we fell down, we try to grab a handful of sands when we stand up, we want to show that we didn't fall, we purposely did that to grab some sand. The pretty gal told me that she is not sure whether the price of RM5.88 is true or not? Well, I told her, I don't know about you la, but I stock piling it in my cart already. I gave her my smile and walk away for the next aile. Let her there to finish up the rest of the math calculation...

(Ok ok, I know I am being sacarstic here, that is for fun writing, please don't get angry. :) )

Hitting two Rats with one Brick

I set up the trap last night, hoping to catch the rat that was still hiding behind my house. The next morning, I was happy to see the smaller rat on the top was being captured. But according to my mom, she said she saw a big rat, so it doesn't matches what I have captured.

On medical leave today, so didn't go to work. When my niece came back from school, she said she want to see the rat, so I showed her. To my surprise, there is another bigger rat that was ran into my glue trap! When I get close to the big rat, you can hear it squeals loudly, I can imagine it must be very painful if such a big rat bites you.

Nobody dare to deal with it because everyone in the family are afraid of rats BUT me. So I have to do the dirty work. First, I covered the rats with newspaper, and then I drop the brick a few times on top of them. It was pretty gross when you see some blood dots like red paint shoot out onto the floor. Damn, don't you think I enjoy doing this. Yikes!

刘力扬 - 礼物

This song, 'The Gift' was played many times on the radio, initially I have no idea who is the singer is until I hear she sang it live in a concert together with other artists. I think she had a very good voice and talent. Heard she is also the winner of the Chinese idol performer from China. Not easy to be number 1 when there are a lot of talents competing against you.

The song and lyrics are quite good, I will be quite impressed if it is all written by her alone.

“高级水”

今天在开车回家的路途中，扭开收音机，听见D公司聘请了著名饮食家-蔡某，为该公司代言它们公司售卖的饮水过滤器。

开场白是蔡某称该公司的水为“高级水”，给它8到9分的评价，然后又说像什么矿泉水的，之前的广告是卖用矿泉水洗澡什么的，很奢华是吗？好吧，过滤出来的水像矿泉水也好；像“高级水”也罢！毕竟收人钱财，替人消灾。卖广告找吃嘛。

但本人觉得最令人喷饭的是，蔡某形容该公司过滤出来的水，很清，很滑，好像还很“顺口”什么的，不知道是发自内心还是广告台词。我心里不禁学了周杰伦，暗骂了一句，“屌!这还不是水一杯？有什么特别的！？什么清啦，还有尽然“滑”也搬出来形容一杯过滤水！难道水还能比油更滑？” 不得不佩服这些所谓著名“饮食家”，TMD也不知道是不是真的假的，真是会“仙家”！

“刺陵”

最近戏院上映“刺陵”，当我说我想看“刺陵”的时候，朋友好心奉劝我别看，说是一部烂片！
我告诉他们说，这点我知道，不用他们告诉我，但我要看的是“志玲”，不是“刺陵”。 哈哈哈！

I am not sure the negative 52 is referring to Celsius or Fahrenheit, but I am sure that when it hits more than negative 10, it is definitely FREAKING COLD!

I had one experience in my life during my days in Utah, I remember clearly the night before we were having a Malaysian Student Association meeting, the small town of Logan, where my campus is located at, was being hit by some snow storm, you have to walk from point A to point B with your gloves covering your ears, because you can feel the pain when the chilly wind cut through your ears.

The wind howled like it is going to tear down the window anytime. A car from belong to my senior broke down in the middle of the road that night, some went to help him push his car out of the snow, when they come back, I had a big laugh when I saw their faces are all red and I can feel the cold air which they carried along with their thick winter jacket.

The snow storm stopped somewhere in the middle of the night, the next day I woke up, it was very very cold outside. I had a key chain that comes with a thermometer, a souvenir that I bought from Texas. I placed the key chain outside the window for 10 minutes, try to find out how cold it is. After I retrieve the key chain, I take a look at it. The reading shows negative -20 degree Celsius after conversion. Ever wonder how cold is negative 20 degree Celsius?

Okay, imagine if someone offer you a challenge, willing to pay you a million USD if you can stand outside naked for 15 minutes, if you loose the challenge, you only need to paid him 2kUSD as penalty; if you win, you get paid for a mil USD. Ok, let's not say naked, he is kind enough to let me wear a pair of boxer or brief which ever I can choose to let my 'mini me' stay warm. Lady challenger can have her bra too if she prefered, or may be she want to stay warmer, argue that she don't get used to wearing any bra but requested for a tight singlet as bra replacement. FINE!, But I can tell you, as a normal person, you DON'T dare to take up the challenge, because you won't be able to make it that easy! I am not sure if running around to keep your body warm helps, but I can tell you, I try to take off the heaviest jacket that I had and try out how cold it was, I wear it back in a minute because I don't think I can last for 5 minutes. That is how cold it is. Imagine you are talking about negative 50. Even cold blooded reptiles like Iguanas can fell off from the trees, if you read the news, what about mammals like us with warm blood?

The wheather is changing since 20 years ago, and I am sure it will be worse in the coming future, earth is dying, at a faster pace now.
