On Friday (30th Sept 2011)evening, I received a shocking call from my colleague, Allan. The moment he touched down on KL International Airport, he called me and told me a saddening news, about our fellow colleague, Simon, had passed away. I was really surprised with such a sudden news. But the most unbelievable part is, it is not any health related death or accidental death. He jumped out from a building and committed "SUICIDE"!!
First of all, I would like to clarify that this colleague of mine, although I am not very close to him, from what I knew about him, he is a lively person that can joke around and won't do such a stupid thing. He is 34 years old, married with 2 kids, one 6 yrs old and another one 3 yrs old. He was posted in Bangkok Thailand for the past 6 months and we didn't see he complained much about working with customers and colleagues there. What is known to us that he seems enjoying his life in Bangkok. I am really curious why a person like him chosed to end his life in such a way, is it because of health problem? Marriage issues? Work stress?Financial issue (he told me that he invested some fish farm in east Malaysia and someone stole his fishes"?
On Monday, I tried to talk to a few colleagues that work with him since Allan called in sick, I try to find out what exactly happened to him? One refuse to talk about it, he just tell me that we have to talk to others if we have problem. But the other few told me what happened to him...the answer is even shocking!
The answer I got is - he was possessed by some evil spirit! Believe it or not!
Quite a number of years ago, my friend told me that his grandma jump out from the building from his apartment despite she barely walk all these years, nobody can explain how come she managed to stand up and climbed on top of the table, and threw herself out. It is a 'mystery' and such mystery happened to my colleague.
After some of my 'investigations' on checking out with other colleagues, I got different version of stories. Some said he jumped from 25th floor, some said 15th floor, but all gave me the similar answer - Simon was possessed by some evil spirit.
A day or two before he kill himself. He was actually seeking asylum in a temple, I think he was seriously 'disturbed' by something. My colleague told me a Thai colleague told her that Simon once told him that he was disturbed by some spirit. The suicide case was published in the local Thailand newspaper and according to the newspaper, the Thai police found some 'devilish drawings' in the room where Simon stays. Another colleague told me that Simon did requested to changed his condo but somehow the evil spirit is following him even after he moved out from the previous apartment he stays. Well, another version of story said that he never moved out from his apartment.
Me, Allan and Simon actually had lunch 3 months ago, now I recalled back that he commented that he is not sleeping well because 'something/someone' bugging him, at that time, I thought his apartment neighbor or house mate is disturbing him, so I did not pay attention at all and I thought he was joking about something else. He love to joke sometimes so I recalled Allan just smile and didn't say much about it. I also notice he wore a rosary that I guess was probably something to fend off any evil spirits. A friend of mine who knew him told me that he shared something on his facebook page about 'Jing Kong Fa Shi", probably some monk's teaching 2 days before he passed away, which is 27 Sept. That was probably his last posting on Facebook. But the mysterious part is - my friend told me that he still connected to a recruitment consultant in Linkedin on 30th Sept, which is the date he jumped!! I feel a bit eerie while typing this... I wonder does he realize what he is doing on that day? Could it be he had loses himself after struggling with the evil spirit? It is just like what we see in the movie, scary and mysterious...
My deepest condolence to him and his family... :(
